Andy Boettcher     Founder and Chairman

Andy Boettcher is a retired professional electrical engineer with over 35 years of experience in Canadian and international business settings, with the last 20 years of those as a senior and executive leader.  Andy has a passion to grow and develop leaders and in addition to a broad array of technical know-how, Andy’s strengths are in program management, operations and developing high-performance teams.  He has built a career of progressive and demonstrated successes in complex, broad-based and large organizational transformations within Information Technology services, Oil and Gas, Retail and Healthcare industries and with NGO’s.

It was during his second international volunteer role from 2014-2016 as Director of Operations of Partners in Hope, a primary health and HIV medical center in Lilongwe, Malawi, that Andy began to explore how he could help facilitate other seasoned business professionals put their skills and experience to practical use, building the capacity and strengthening leadership of global delivery organizations serving marginalized and at-risk people groups in developing nations of the world.  When a unique opportunity to assume leadership of an existing outreach mission arm of a Canadian charity presented itself, Andy gathered a team of like-minded professionals and with their combined passion for service excellence through Christian compassion, launched Hands and Feet International.

Andy is currently living with his beautiful wife Sonya in Cape Town, South Africa and they have three adult children and one grandchild residing in Canada.  They are continuing their overseas service as volunteers posted under Hands and Feet International.  Andy is serving with Hillsong Africa Foundation, focused on providing leadership coaching and strategic advisory services to programs development. Sonya is launching Living in Color, a program focused on helping women recover and heal from post-abortion trauma.

Werner Haag     Treasurer and Director

Werner Haag is a Chartered Accountant and the Senior and Founding Partner with Werner Haag Chartered Accountants.  His firm has been proudly servicing Calgary and surrounding area clients since 1988. Specializing in Small Business Services, they provide professional accounting services not limited to but including: Financial Planning, Corporate and Personal Tax Services, Tax Planning, Audits and US Tax Preparation.   Werner serves on numerous boards in various advisor and financial capacities. Werner resides in Calgary, Canada with his wife Edna and together they have three children and nine grandchildren.

John Seib     Secretary and Director

Upon graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a business degree in economics, John, along with his wife, Ellen, chose Calgary to start their careers. This was a choice that would prove to work out very well! John’s career with a major petroleum company, spanned thirty years, during which he had the opportunity to develop expertise in leadership, finance, planning and contracts. It also took the Seibs to Winnipeg and Toronto for periods of time, which gave John personal experience in relocation and adjusting to new communities. He then chose to start a second career in Real Estate fifteen years ago, so that he could continue to interact with people and stay active in business. Being able to help people realize their home ownership dreams is a privilege and responsibility that John does not take lightly.

John is fortunate to have a city-wide client base and to have extensive experience in all types of urban and rural residential properties. Mentoring new realtors and brokerage staff is a role that John enjoys. His interests include active involvement as a director in charitable organizations in Calgary, travelling, antique cars and home projects on his acreage. John and Ellen enjoy spending time with their two married children, their spouses and seven grandchildren. John especially enjoys being able to work with his son Paul and daughter-in-law Dione, in real estate.

John’s past experience includes serving as a director and secretary on church boards. This included active volunteer involvement in church life by singing in the choir, Christian education administration and constitution development. Additional governance experience includes serving on the board of Master’s Academy and College; a private, values based K-12 school, for several years and as a founding director and secretary for nine years on the board of the Calgary Dream Centre, a charity devoted to help individuals end the cycle of homelessness and return to being contributing members of society.  John’s community involvement includes being a community representative for the liaison with a major adjacent land development.

Jordan Lynn Bell     Director

Jordan Lynn Bell is retired from the University of Calgary where she held an administrative position within the department of Sociology. Jordan holds a B.A. from the University of Alberta and an M.A. in Counselling from Providence University College and Theological Seminary as well as a graduate Certificate in Christian Spirituality.

Jordan continues to offer both counselling and spiritual direction within a private practice. She has also had the great privilege of doing volunteer work in Rwanda on a number of occasions. As well, she volunteers in a number of local and national organizations and serves on one other board. Jordan resides in Cochrane, AB and has three daughters, and one granddaughter.

Ian Stokes     Director

Ian Stokes has spent the majority of his career in faith-based and international charitable work. Upon graduating from Master’s College and Seminary, Ian entered pastoral ministry at First Assembly Church (PAOC) in Calgary, AB. Responsible for creating and overseeing local and global outreach initiatives, Ian was involved in the training and releasing of church members into meaningful ministry initiatives, both short-term and long-term. During this time, Ian worked closely with fellow HFI Founder Andy Boettcher.

After eight years of church-based ministry, he transitioned into an international role and spent several years in business before returning to the not-for-profit sector. In 2007, Ian joined Samaritan’s Purse Canada (SPC). Ian oversees the international mobilization group at SPC which is responsible for short-term teams, medical volunteers, international staff, and Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DART). Each year, SPC trains, sends and supports over 500 volunteers and staff to international deployments in dozens of countries. This includes providing HR support, volunteer management, cultural awareness training, risk management/mitigation, staff and member care, among other responsibilities.

Ian has travelled extensively in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Additionally, Ian has lived and worked overseas in Kenya and mainland China. Ian is passionate to see the church in the global north maximize its resources and availability to support and champion the church in the global south in mutually-beneficial initiatives and relationships that build the Kingdom of God globally.

Ian currently resides in Calgary, AB. along with his beautiful wife Trina and two teenage sons, Ethan and Caleb. Ian continues to work with Samaritan’s Purse and attends First Alliance Church. Ian enjoys spending time with family, extensive reading and exploring new places.

 

Phil Toews     Director

Phil Toews is a retired businessman.  He worked as an Engineer for an international energy firm before switching to a career in commodities sales and trading in the investment banking sector.  Phil serves on several private and not-for-profit boards in various advisory capacities, and is a graduate of the ICD Director’s course.  Phil resides on a farm in Millarville, AB, Canada with his wife Michele.
