Perhaps the best way to describe my “why”, the motivations behind how I ended up serving as an Executive Advisor to Hillsong Africa’s senior leadership for the past 7 years, is to show you pictorially the building blocks of how my wife and I lead our household.  We describe these elements to our now adult children in the following three layers of “bricks”, the first foundational layer being our Beliefs and Convictions, as shown below:

The second layer is our Values and Principles, as shown below:

And the third layer is our end-state Goals and our over life’s “Why“, as shown below:

As you can see, we are deeply motivated to leave a legacy not only through the continuing lives of our family (children) but also through the other lives we touch – all those we’ve had the privilege to serve in South Africa over the past 7 years.

These three Layers of Elements come together to describe what we hope people see in us as we serve others and the Impact and Influence our lives leave as a legacy in them.  See the illustrative table below:

2018

We’ve Arrived in Cape Town! Can’t wait to get started working with the HAF Leadership Team
Another amazing GLS conference again here in Cape Town. Hoping to leverage my learning’s into all my team interactions with Hillsong Africa Foundation.
Innovation Hub Vision Night. What a great start to an amazing project!
What a privilege I get to work with such an amazing group of young leaders – the Hillsong Africa Foundation Leadership Team
HAF’s annual young leaders camp in early December was a resounding success as over 100 youth leaders gathered to learn how to stretch themselves and embrace leadership principles that they can take back to their homes and communities to bring positive influence and change.

2020

2020 iHub Cohort is underway! 28 new young adults ready to learn new skills for the digital economy and, unleash their potential and pursue their dreams for a life changing career in South Africa! 
Seen here at the Calgary airport, donning our protective face masks, we arrived back in Calgary after serving as volunteers in Malawi and South Africa on and off for the past 6+ years!
The entire iHub leadership and volunteer team are very proud of the 24 students who graduated from the Innovation Hub Africa digital skills program on December 11th!

2021

Missed it by one day! But God is in control…. We are still here waiting to restart our posting in South Africa
We finally arrived in Cape Town, South Africa in the early morning hours of Friday, Feb. 25, 2021
It was great to get back “into the saddle”, doing what I love helping this amazing iHub vision continue to grow and develop as a program that truly changes lives…
We’ve launched our second iHub Location! What a privilege it was to experience the vibe and energy of the students at this new location, meet our 11 new adult learners and our local leadership and feed into the future planning of our iHub operations in South Africa.
iHub and Comarketers Graduation – a dream come true!
We are so excited to see three of our program graduates accept full-time positions with Co-Marketers. This is a “proof-of-concept” dream come true!
The second 12-week phase of digital and soft skills training launched on May 17th.
Shift One is a local digital advertising and media agency that have come along side of the Innovation Hub Africa in a big way, offering their deep expertise through training content and the opportunity to place several of our graduates once they complete the full 3-phase program.
The Soft Skills for Business training stream is a defining feature of the iHub program that sets it apart from others.
Every time I drive through the township of Philippi, I am reminded of where many of our iHub students go home to, and why the iHub program represents such a life-changing opportunity for them and their families
Nothing like getting your first paycheck as a Full-time Digital Marketer and being able to see some sights around your home city that you never could afford before!

How do you see the future?
On Friday November 19th, the Innovation Hub Africa held its third graduation ceremony with 22 graduates completing the 2021 training program.
I just wrapped up the formal part of my brief journey as an HFI Coach-Mentor with Sabelo, an iHub Student that I’ve been coaching and mentoring. The experience has been nothing short of outstanding!

2022

Our Innovation Hub team is in high gear to get ready to receive 100 new students as part of our 2022 Intake. Boot Camp begins February 7th.
Seven more Internship Placements! Our iHub 2021 Grads have landed in great new paying jobs, launching their careers in the global digital economy…
iHub Boot Camp 2022 is a wrap! We’ve put some amazing candidates “through the gauntlet” to help us finalize our admission invitations for 50 program seats.
The 50-50 Roadmap – a church growth strategy for the continent of Africa, receives its final approval from the senior leadership team of Hillsong Africa.
We’ve just onboarded 7 new volunteer iHub student coaches bringing to 10 the total number of Coach-Mentors serving as part of the HFI Stay&Serve program!
Say hello to our exciting new 2022 iHub Africa student cohort who’ve just passed the four-week milestone of phase 1 of their training.
We congratulate Romeo on successfully completing his internship with Comarketers. Full-time job here we come!
The iHub Board of Directors is officially underway! Becoming a member of this newly appointed leadership board represents a significant shift in how I continue to contribute to the vision and mandate of the Innovation Hub Africa.
Today the Dutch Consul General, NL Foreign Affairs head for Africa and their team visited iHub; they LOVED it!
The iHub Africa program just graduated 34 amazing students on Dec. 2nd!
The Philippi Village iHub in Western Cape, SA will be closing its doors end of December as the iHub Africa program consolidates into a single location in Johannesburg for 2023.

2023

Following a successful Boot Camp, we have enrolled 45 students into our 2023 iHub training program in Johannesburg
Trauma-informed Care Training was successfully delivered to the iHub Leadership Team, Students and Coaches during a recent HFI 2-week posting of three professional, Canadian counsellor volunteers to Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa.
